Wild encounters
Each place in the wild has its own list of Nexomon, set in the game's data. It also holds the earlier stages of every Nexomon on its list. Some places have their grass in patches, each with a list of its own.
Higher tiers only join the lists as the story goes on:
- Tier-2 Nexomon join after you beat Jin in Magma Grotto Town, in the main quest Tyrant Mulcimer.
- Tier-3 Nexomon, and any above, join after you beat Ross and Nora in Laboratory Ruins Boss.
- Custom Mode can allow every tier from the start.
In Custom Mode, the lists can also be shuffled between places or made fully random.
Rare ones the story adds
On top of a place's list, the code adds rare Nexomon of its own, each one's page saying where:
- Tyrants, on maps of their own, once you've completed the main quests Grandmaster Promotion and Destroy Vados and then talked to the Admin in Guild Lobby, in Guild Entrance.
- Wardens, anywhere outside Precursor Valley, the Abyssal realm, once you've completed the main quest Resurrect Bolzen.
- Extinct Nexomon, on maps of their own, once you've completed the side quest The Extinction Project.
- The CHAOS Nexomon, anywhere in Precursor Valley, once you've completed The Extinction Project, found the four CHAOS discs (Fulmina Disc, Gurgita Disc, Anima Disc and Agita Disc) and taken them back to Laboratory of Diseases.
- Precursor Valley's own wardens, anywhere there, after you win Hilda 2 and the story brings you back to Outpost.
- Dragons, during the main quest Resurrect Bolzen, from when you talk to Derek in Underwater City Ghetto or reach Logan's Shack until you complete it: every wild Nexomon in parts of Cadium is one of them.
- Luhava, on maps of its own, from the start.
Tyrants, both kinds of wardens, the CHAOS Nexomon and Luhava stop turning up once you own one. Once you've completed the main quest Destroy Vados and taken Eliza up on her offer in Hilda's Room, they come back.
Once you've completed the main quest Destroy Vados and taken Eliza up on her offer in Hilda's Room, copies of legendary Nexomon also join on maps of their own, and once you own 300 different Nexomon, Solus and Protovados can turn up anywhere. Ask her about special Nexomon and pick “Yes, let the hunt begin”. She only offers once you've completed 16 quests the code lists, or finished the Abyssal realm's story.
Which one you meet
The game picks one Nexomon from the list at random, in proportion to their weights. A Nexomon's weight starts at 1,000 for tier 1, 700 for tier 2 and 500 for tier 3, divided by half its rarity's number: Common is 1, Uncommon 2 and so on up to Ultimate's 7. So a Common tier-1 Nexomon weighs 2,000 and an Uncommon one 1,000. Legendary and Ultimate Nexomon have their weight cut to 40% on top of that.
Every place with wild Nexomon has a table on its page of your chance of meeting each one there, worked out this way, for each patch and each stage of the story that changes it. When the story adds a rare one, it takes a share of its own, and the rest come up a little less.
A Nexomon you're luring weighs 15 times as much, and its cosmic odds improve too.
