Levels and ranks
A building’s rank caps its level: 20 levels per rank, plus any extra levels bonuses give (the Statue of Heroes gives some). A new building starts at rank 0, so its first rank is what opens its levels. To rank a building up past its first rank, its level has to be at that cap. Every building but the Statue of Heroes also needs the Statue at the rank you’re buying, or higher. So the Statue leads, and the rest follow.
Ranks cost materials, and most ask for something more as well, listed on each building’s page under Ranks. Levels cost town materials. Each building has one main kind, and from rank 1 on each new rank adds one more kind, needed once the building’s level reaches 20 × that rank. Level costs climb fast: past level 20 they double every 20 levels on top of their usual growth, and the main material’s cost also quadruples every 20 levels past 60.
Research
Every building can research with each of the three resources, Stone, Crystal and Leaf. Each research has its own level and raises its own stat (the Research table on each page). A research level can’t pass the building’s level. Research takes time: the first level takes two hours, and each one after takes longer.
The more of a resource you hold, the faster its research runs: its research power grows with the size of your stock. You start with one research running at a time.
