How often you can breed

You can breed 5 times in a row, shared across all your fish. After that you have to wait: you get another try every 7 minutes, even while the game is closed, until you're back to 5. Inviting a Steam friend gives you an extra try straight away, as long as you have fewer than 5. That works for up to 15 invites.

Picking parents

Pick two fish. Each has to pass a check:

  • A goldfish must be fully grown.
  • Any other fish must have breeds of its own left. Separate from the shared tries above, every fish can only be a parent a set number of times, fixed when it’s made.
  • A fish that has just been bred has a 3-minute cooldown before breeding again.

You can't breed while you own 999 fish or more, not counting goldfish.

The new fish

The game picks the new fish at random: its species, rarity, grade and colour.

Before you breed, the forecast shows the odds of each rarity from the game’s own table below, by the two parents’ levels added up.

For example

Say you breed Sunshine Tang (Common, level 1) with Prism Rainbowfish (Rare, level 3). Their levels add up to 4, so the new fish's chances are:

  • 37.72% chance it's Common.
  • 44.28% chance it's Uncommon.
  • 15% chance it's Rare.
  • 3% chance it's Legendary.

It can't be Mythic.

After breeding

Both parents stay in your aquarium. Breeding uses up one of your shared tries, and one of each parent’s own breeds (a goldfish has no limit to use up). Your aquarium gets 10 experience for each parent that isn’t a goldfish.
